Welcome to ‘The College Merthyr Tydfil’. As parents/carers of prospective or current students we understand that you want the very best for your children and will want to know about the quality of education and examination results for our subject areas – what your child can expect to achieve and also the level of pastoral support and care that we provide here at the college.
Year 11 can be both an exciting and daunting time for pupils and their parents. As well as finishing coursework and taking exams, your son or daughter will have to make important choices about what they want to do next year.
Many of your children may still be undecided about what they want to do; whereas others may already know the course, apprenticeship or employment route that they want to take.
Whatever the circumstances, we will work with you and your son/daughter to advise them on which programme is best suited for their current skills and abilities. We continually review our entry standards for all courses to make sure that students are only admitted to courses where they have the best chance of success.
Like all good secondary schools, we welcome the involvement of parents and will work with you to ensure that your son/daughter's transition into the college is as smooth as possible and that he/she achieves their maximum potential whilst at college. The reason for this is that we know that the students who perform best are those who do three things:
We hope that you find the information and resources on this page useful and valuable. However, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time if you have concerns or questions regarding your son/daughters education. By working together we hope to guide your son/daughter towards success.
We look forward to welcoming your son/daughter in 2015.
