Foundation Degree Photography students will be showcasing their work at their “Time And Light -Through The Lens" Exhibition, which runs at the Redhouse, Merthyr Tydfil from this Friday 16th December through to 7th January 2017.
Photography is going from strength to strength in the college having been run by a dedicated team, for over 25 years. In the wider community, it is seen as a highly sought after course, that produces excellent results. The students in the photography department collaborate extensively with local business, exhibition venues, community groups and the college community. Professional practice is at the heart of the foundation degree course. Photography, is a creative way of communicating ideas, thoughts and self-expression. The subject allows students to develop as individuals, giving them confidence to liaise with the general public, the business community, professional clients and the Creative Industries. Students develop up-to-the-minute IT skills that are transferable across many other work professions. Over the span of course, students develop their life skills and self-esteem that helps them climb the social ladder of life, with many graduates gaining employment in a variety of Creative Industries related careers.
Exhibitions such as this are a fantastic opportunity to showcase the great talent in around Merthyr. This year's exhibition showcases work of a professional standard that each student has demonstrated. The whole event would not have been possible without the commitment, talent and motivation of the students.
Photography student Chlo Evans, commented “Photography is about more than clicking the shutter, it’s about capturing a moment in time. The best photographs are the ones that contain heart and soul and as long as you have them you can photograph anything. This exhibition is our chance to show our passion and our way of self-expression.”
Along with having an excellent gallery facility, this opportunity to exhibit at Redhouse will further help to showcase the growth of creative and cultural development across Merthyr Tydfil.
