A level and BTEC students from The College Merthyr Tydfil were invited to the Mayor’s parlour on Wednesday 25th March in honour of their outstanding contribution to Merthyr Tydfil’s Literary Festival.
The students comprised six BTEC level 3 Computing and IT students who were responsible for setting up the IT equipment to support presentations and ten English students who acted as hosts and comperes for storytelling sessions and interviews with famous authors.
The guest list included, amongst others, authors Daniel Morden and David Llewellyn and Songwriter Sam McCarthy. Each of the English students were responsible for researching all of the guests, creating a profile to introduce them, and then working with the secondary and primary schools to identify key questions to ask them.
English students, Ethan Evans and Carys Davies had the privilege of interviewing authors David Llewellyn, Tori James and Film and Television Writer Debbie Moon. Ethan commented “The ‘Spread the Word’ Festival was a great success, and I was so pleased to be able to play a part in the proceedings! I had the fortune of spending my day (in fancy dress!!) in the company of good friends, famous authors, screen-writers, and costume designers, interviewing them on stage, and learning more about their craft, all in aid of promoting literacy amongst the young people of Merthyr. What a brilliant day! Everyone worked really hard, and I'm proud of what we achieved. I'm already counting down the days 'till the next festival!”
