Record year of recruitment and successes for award winning college


The College Merthyr Tydfil is celebrating a record year of recruitment with over 2,000 students enrolling to study A levels or vocational courses during the next academic year. All courses are now full with a number of areas already taking lists and applications ready for 2017 entry. This record recruitment comes on the back of a phenomenal year of success, which, amongst other things, has seen the college:

  • Achieve its best A level results ever – with a 99% pass rate for the second consecutive year running and a 3% increase in its percentage of A*- C grades
  • Achieve its best ever vocational and BTEC results with many areas achieving a 100% pass rate, including Business, Travel and Tourism, Outdoor Sport, Health and Social Care, Media, Music, Performing Arts and Art and Design.
  • Improve progression onto higher education –with over 200 A level and vocational students accepted on to degree programmes at leading universities across the UK, including:
    • First ever learner to progress on to the prestigious RADA
    • First ever learner to progress on to Cambridge University
    • First ever learner to progress on to study Veterinary Science at the University of Surrey
    • First ever learner progress on to study Medicine at Cardiff University Medical School
  • Have a number of learners winning national skills or industry awards, sporting achievements and enterprise challenges.
  • Successfully run its first ever BA Hons Business Studies Degree achieving phenomenal results across the board, including a number of first class honours.
  • Be shortlisted for the Times Further Education ‘FE College of the Year’ Award
  • Be rated the best FE college in Wales for Higher Education student satisfaction 
  • Achieve excellent results for FE student satisfaction
