COURSE DESCRIPTION

Psychology is the science of the mind, body and experience. Students will learn about different research methods and theories and will enjoy taking part in class exercises and discussions about factors that drive thoughts and behaviours. Students will be expected to complete homework assignments and will receive continual support to help prepare them for their examinations.

AS/A2 UNITS

The first year is the AS course and covers topics such as:

  • Unit 1:
    • research methods,
    • memory and attachment
  • Unit 2:
    • stress,
    • abnormality 
    • conformity
    • obedience 

The second year completes the A level with topics such as:

  • Unit 3:
    • relationships
    • eating behaviour
    •  aggression
  • Unit 4:
    • research methods
    • media
    • depression

ASSESSMENT

100% Examination
(one exam per unit).

ENTRY

5 GCSE’s at grades A* to C, grade B in English language or English literature is desirable and maths. Students with these grades will be offered firm places.

PROGRESSION

Many students apply to and are offered places at university to study courses such as psychology, criminology, sports psychology, psychiatry, counselling, teaching, police studies and combined studies. A number of students also go onto employment or move onto an apprenticeship programme
