A level Electronics




Electronics is a hugely important part of any industry. This course provides a firm foundation in electronics knowledge and understanding, together with mathematical competence for those wishing proceed to further studies in electronics, engineering or the natural sciences. It also offers encouragement to candidates to develop skills of analysis, evaluation and research as well as the ability of critical thinking in terms of the applications of electronics to contemporary issues.

AS/A2 Units The first year of the AS course covers topics such as:

Unit 1: introduction to digital and analogue systems

Unit 2: circuits and components

Unit 3: programmable control systems project

The second year completes the A level with topics such as:

Unit 4: communications systems

Unit 5: systems applications

Unit 6: design project


ET 1: 1¼ hour written paper

ET 2: 1¼ hours written paper

ET 3: internal assessment

ET 4: 1 hour written paper

ET 5: 1½ hour written paper

ET 6: internal assessment

Entry 5 GCSEs at grades A* to C including maths or equivalent.

Progression Successful completion of the Electronics A level will see students progress to a wide variety of destinations including higher education. Electronics is a versatile subject that can lead to a number of different career paths like engineering
