COURSE DESCRIPTION

A level art and design is a practical course that includes some historical elements.

You will have the opportunity to develop your ideas through experimentation with a range of materials, media and processes.

You will also have the opportunity to study a range of specialised options from the following areas:

  • fine art
  • graphic design
  • ceramics
  • printmaking
  • photography.

AS/A2 UNITS

The first year is the AS course which is split into two key units:

Unit 1 is a coursework portfolio which provides opportunities to generate practical work, ideas and research from primary and contextual sources.

Unit 2 is an external set assignment with a broad based thematic starting point which will enable you to work more independently in the development of ideas, intentions and response.

 

The second year completes the A’ level with two units:

Unit 3 incorporates two linked elements, each with separate final outcomes: Practical work and

personal study.

Unit 4 is the externally set assignment which represents the culmination of the A2 course.

 

ASSESSMENT

  • 60% coursework
  • 40% examination

ENTRY

5 GCSEs at grades A* to C including English language
