The College Merthyr Tydfil has been named as the top further education college in Wales for HE student satisfaction, according to the annual National Student Satisfaction Survey.
The college, which scored 87% last year, has risen to 94%, and is now joint top in Wales alongside Gower College which also scored 94%. This high score puts the college on par with the University of St Andrews which ranks 1st in the Times Higher Education National Student Survey (NSS) 2018: overall student satisfaction results.
Principal John O’Shea commented “This is an excellent achievement for the college. Our small class sizes, high quality, experienced staff and outstanding support aims to ensure that all learners have the best learning experience possible enabling them to achieve their maximum potential. Our outcomes in the 2018 survey are testament to this.”
Areas that we scored particularly well in were teaching (88%), learning opportunities (92%), academic support (90%), learning resources (88%) and learning communities (93%).
On an individual subject basis our Foundation Degrees in Business Studies and Psychology performed particularly well, achieving an overall satisfaction rate of 100%. Our sport and care and creative industries courses also scored very highly achieving 94% and 91% overall satisfaction respectively.
Student Hannah Casey who has just graduated on the FD Business Studies Degree, commented “I’m so grateful to the staff for all of their time and patience. I would never have thought I would graduate and couldn't have done it without then. The teaching and support I have received has been amazing and I couldn't have picked a better college to do the course. I’m really looking forward to progressing on to the BA Hons Top-up in September.”
