Enterprise & Employability

Enterprise and employability modules are integrated into each course to ensure that students have the opportunity to develop, enhance and improve their skills in these areas. The college also has a detailed strategy for employer engagement. This includes:

  • Providing facilities to enable post-19 learners to develop specialist skills that would be of particular benefit to local economic and social needs. The college has training facilities to provide appropriate courses, link closely with work based learning and encourage re-engagement through relevant and practical learning
  • Access to work based learning programmes for those seeking taster Skillbuild/Level One and Foundation and Advanced Modern Apprenticeship programmes with the facility to transfer to/from Further Education as appropriate
  • Direct learning pathways for work based learning students to further their studies.
  • Links with the recently developed Employer Engagement Strategy at the University of South Wales
  • Development of a number of initiatives aimed at identifying skills required within the Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, including:
    • Employer/industry talks as part of the Welsh baccalaureate qualification,
    • Integration of employability modules into key courses to ensure that learners acquire the skills needed by industry
    • Regular employer forums
    • Links with key local sectors
    • Employer representation on Membership Body
    • Strategic links with Merthyr Tydfil Business Club
