The college Merthyr Tydfil has been selected to work in partnership with the National Library of Wales (NLW), to promote and host National Library and Archive materials for students and communities across the Heads of the Valleys region. Professor Aled Gruffydd Jones, Chief Executive of NLW has been “hugely impressed not only by the quality of the new building, but the energy of what is going on inside it” and as a result, the College is one of the few sites in South Wales that has been nominated to work with NLW!
This is a tremendous opportunity to both support the work of the NLW, and to open up the college and NLW to schools, communities and local bodies. The exciting new collaboration commenced with the launch of ‘Cymru 1914’ a WWI digital exhibition which was formally opened at the college by John Griffiths, Minister for Culture and Sport, on 28th November 2013.
John O’Shea, Principal for The College Merthyr Tydfil commented that “for this exhibition to have its home in Merthyr Tydfil is both a fantastic achievement for the college and an asset for Merthyr Tydfil itself. We are therefore extremely proud to work in partnership with the National Library and Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council to disseminate some of the excellent collection and material that the library has to offer to the local community of Merthyr Tydfil”.
