A level learner, Anna Pritchard, has been nominated for a prestigious Design and Technology Innovation Award in recognition of her outstanding design concept for her A2 Design and Technology project.
Inspired by her mission to raise awareness of youth homelessness within the UK, Anna’s design concept is based on a rectangular table with individual blocks positioned at strategic points across the table.
Each block symbolises an individual in society and Anna has cleverly used different height, colour and engrained blocks to showcase that each individual is different and to demonstrate the diversity and different ethnicities that are within our society.
Youth homelessness is represented through a clear acrylic block placed in the middle of the table, showcasing their vulnerability within society. At each side of the acrylic block, newspaper articles have been displayed to illustrate the public’s distorted view of this vulnerable group. Anna has also included a mild steel block to signify the technological development of society and the integration of artificial intelligence.
Making full use of reclaimed materials, Anna’s design is a culmination of a fantastic two years of hard work, dedication and commitment to her studies, which amongst other things, has seen her achieve an A* in her coursework and represent the college as an ambassador at key recruitment and engineering promotional events. Following an interview and showcase of her A level work she has also been offered an unconditional offer to study a BSc Product design degree at Cardiff Metropolitan University
Tutor Jonathan Cahill commented “I can honestly say that Anna’s project is the best project that I have ever marked in my 15 years of teaching. She has been an outstanding student throughout the two years and has been an absolute pleasure to teach. I wish her all the very best for her future degree”
Nominated for the Innovation award by the WJEC ‘A’ level moderator, Anna will now join other learners from across Wales at a prestigious Awards Event where the most innovative projects of learners at GCSE, AS and A level will be showcased and team of distinguished judges will select a winner at each level as well as an overall winner.
