Travel and Tourism

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism

This qualification enables learners to develop their knowledge and understanding of the travel and tourism sector, its component industries, their role and the interrelationships within the sector. Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of how the sector has developed over the last 50 years, what it is today and how it is being affected by current trends and factors.

The first year of the course covers topics such as:

  • Investigating the Travel and Tourism Sector
  •  The Business of Travel and Tourism
  •  The UK as a Destination
  •  Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
  • UK Visitor Attractions
  • Long Haul Destinations

The second year completes the BTEC with topics such as:

  • Organising a Travel and Tourism Study Visit
  • Preparing for Employment
  • European Destinations
  • Retail Travel Operations

Assessment:

  • All units are internally assessed in the BTEC qualifications in this specification.
  • All assessment for the BTEC qualifications in this specification is criterion referenced, based on the
  • Achievement of specified learning outcomes. Each unit within the qualification has specified assessment and
  • Grading criteria which are to be used for grading purposes. A summative unit grade can be awarded at pass,
  • Merit or distinction:
  • To achieve a ‘pass’ a learner must have satisfied all the pass assessment criteria
  •  To achieve a ‘merit’ a learner must additionally have satisfied all the merit grading criteria
  •  To achieve a ‘distinction’ a learner must additionally have satisfied all the distinction grading criteria.

Entry Requirements:

4 GCSEs at grades A* to C including English Language and Maths or equivalent.
